The Basics: 26 year old blogger, Healthy Living Summit Planner, Social Media Freelancer and Queen of Awesome from Tampa, Florida.
When/How did you start running?
I started running in January of 2008, when I was looking for a quick way to lose weight. Turns out I did more than lose weight; I gained a new hobby and a love for a new sport I didn’t have before.
Why do you run?
I run for my sanity. I run to stay in shape. I run to challenge my self. And I run because it’s a part of me.
When do you prefer to run?
In the morning, right before the sunrises. The earth is so peaceful then. It’s just you and the road.
When/Where was your best run ever?
Such a tough question! I’d say my ‘best’ run was probably when I ran my fastest 5k a couple of years ago, but my favorite would be my first 15 mile trail race that I ran with 4 friends. I couldn’t stop smiling!
What is your proudest moment in running?
Probably my sub-4:00 marathon. I worked SO HARD for that time. My main goal was to not give up, and I’m proud to say I never did.
What is your biggest running disaster/embarrassing moment?
I guess I should say having to pull over on the side of the road to ‘take care of business’ during runs, but I’ve done that too many times now that it’s become second nature with running.
What are your running goals?
Qualify for Boston – but I think that’s any runner’s given – and to run a race in every state!
What is a typical dinner for you?
Basically I’ll heat up every vegetable we have in the house, add a protein and carb, throw it all in a bowl, top with marinara sauce, and eat. Dinner. Done.
What do you bring to every race?
My camera! Sometimes I’ll forget my shoes, but still have my camera with me.
What is your favorite guilty pleasure?
Self serve frozen yogurt with lots of toppings. It’s the toppings that always get me. :)
What advice would you give to a beginning runner?
Stick with it! When I started running I was slow and overweight. It took me months to run my first 5k, and over a year for my first half marathon. It’s not easy when you don’t see improvement in speed or endurance right away, but if you stick with it, I promise it will come.
What do you listen to when you run?
Showtunes. And I ain’t ashamed.
What inspired you to be a founding member of the Healthy Living Summit?
My friends and I wanted to create a conference where we could meet all the bloggers we read on a daily basis, that was also affordable. We wanted an ‘every-man’s’ conference, and I think that’s what we created.
What is something most people don’t know about you?
I can’t ride in the car with the windows open – it makes me carsick!
