Calling all Running Stories!

Yowza!  What a crazy summer I’m having!  It’s been almost a year that I’ve been writing for Digital Running, and through it all I’ve gained a modest following of readers who’ve been with me through marathons, half marathons, PR’s, family victories and footwear woes.

This summer there’s no slowing down… thanks to the fantastic training plans Coach Brian has developed for me, I’m looking at a potential breakthrough in my half marathon time (Can I really hit 1:45? Can I? Stay tuned!). I’m heading out for my first 50k (how many ultra-marathoners do you know? Well, hopefully you can soon add another one to that list!). I’m taking a page from my Coach’s book, and I’m training my son to run his first half marathon!

And, believe it or not, there is such a thing as life outside of running.  I recently opened the Flagship Vibram FiveFingers store… the only one in the United States, hopefully the first of many! Well, actually, I guess that still has to do with running.  I’ve secured a sponsorship with Clif Bar (ok, that has to do with running too). Well, here’s’ something unrelated: I bought a new car! A 2012 Hyundai Veloster.  It’s been a long time since I’d bought a car brand new. You know what sealed the deal for me? The color. The car is silver.  But not just silver. Not according to Hyundai. They call it Ironman Silver. It was a tough decision between that color and Marathon Blue.  I guess I always knew there was an Ironman in my future somewhere.

So here’s the thing: you readers know a lot about me.  Time for me to learn about you.  What’s the strangest thing that’s ever happened to you during a run or a race?  What’s the toughest race you ever ran?  Ever done an Ultra?  An Ironman?  A couch-to-5k?  Got a great success story to share?  I want to know!  And…let’s face it…I’m a busy girl.  It’ll be nice to let you guys do the writing for a change!

The Nitty Gritty:

  • Send your best story (true stories only please, but nothing you’d be embarrassed or in trouble for publishing!) in the body of your email, without an attachment please, to the following email address:
  • My favorite stories will be published at random in upcoming columns on Digital Running. You’ll be notified via email (and maybe some fan mail!) if your story is getting published.
  • My favorite story of all time will win the Grand Prize (insert drumroll here): A Vibram FiveFingers T-Shirt! (And here is where you insert your own OOOH’s and AHHHH’s).  The winner will be chosen before Oct. 1, 2012, and will be contacted via email for an address to mail the T-Shirt to.
  • Guidelines: there aren’t many.  But the best odds of being published will be stories that are in English; 1000 words or less; interesting, humorous, or inspiring; and appealing to a wide range of runners.  Digital Running reserves the right to edit submissions for content and length. If you have a great photo to go with your story, let me know in the email and I’ll ask you for it if I choose your story to run.

Good luck runners!  I can’t wait to read what you have to say!!!
