Magical Miles: The Runner’s Guide to Walt Disney World

This is a guest post by Megan Biller, co-author of “Magical Miles: The Runner’s Guide to Walt Disney World“.

When I began to research my first half marathon, I had no idea where to start. I looked at the race website and tried to glean every piece of information I could. I found a map of the course and race start time, but that was about it.

I wanted more information.

I searched online for hours and hours. Yet little did I know that the best information would come when I actually ran the race and experienced it all myself.

So when a friend approached me about writing a book about Disney races, I was on board immediately. Being huge Disney fans (not to mention vacation specialists), we knew the resorts, restaurants and parks extremely well. Add in that between the two of us, we had run almost every runDisney event, we knew we had the information new runners were searching for.

And so our book writing process began!

We worked together virtually, taking all the information and research we had, and combining it all into a guide book format. There were a lot of late nights. There were a lot of emails and phone calls for research. There may have been a few hair-pulling moments (primarily in the editing stage). Yet when we got a copy of our book in our hands, it was all worth it!

Included in the book is information on:

  • Choosing which race to run
  • Guidance through the registration process
  • Details about each Walt Disney World resort and restaurant
  • Navigating the race Expo
  • Specifics on the races (including the Kids Races, 5K and main events), post-race details, spectator tips and even park touring plans!

From our personal experience (along with a lot of research), we wanted to make sure that a first time runDisney runner would have the information they needed before participating in these magical events!

The response has been overwhelming! We have received a great amount of support, which has been extremely humbling. Yet our work is not done. We plan on updating the book each year!

We have already been working on the newer edition, taking in the feedback we have received.  runDisney has already added on new races, along with a few changes, which we will be sure to include. Having experienced even more runDisney events, we are planning on incorporating more of our findings!

The 2014 edition will have a larger spectator chapter, as well as reviews from runners on resorts, restaurants and even the races themselves! We also plan to have supplements available to make your runDisney race preparation even easier. One supplement will be full of checklists so you don’t miss any of the magic!

Yet we know this is just the beginning. runDisney events are growing by leaps and bounds, and we want to help runners and their families make the most of their race getaway! And of course, we want to make sure EVERYONE enjoys their magical miles!

Be sure to keep up-to-date on the latest Magical Miles information!

Nice post. I have always wanted to do a run like this. Does the book cover how to approach a trip like this economically? I have 2 kids with 1 on the way.

    Good luck!
