Catching Up With Kim Prytherch

On March 3, 2013, Kim became the first person to complete the Digital Running Interstate Challenge!

The Basics: 40 year old stay at home mom from Point Pleasant, NJ.

Kim was the first runner to complete our Interstate Challenge! She ran the E Murray Todd Half Marathon in NJ and the Walt Disney World Marathon in FL.

When/How did you start running?

In August 2011, I started the C25K program, and then decided to go for the Half Marathon. I ran 4 Half Marathons last year, and did 6 so far this year, plus the Disney Marathon.

Why do you run?

To stay in shape, as a fundraiser for Komen and a local Charity: the Cancer Concern Center. It calms me, and it makes me feel like a boss :)

When do you prefer to run?

In the morning, usually

When/Where was your best run ever?

Long Branch, NJ, at the Long Branch Half, my first Half Marathon ever. It was so hard, and so amazing

What is your proudest moment in running?

Finishing the Disney Marathon. We visited all the characters, rode Expedition Everest, and finished in 7 hours! Definitely the toughest to date!

What is your biggest running disaster/embarrassing moment?

At my last Half (my second Long Branch Half) I got stuck in traffic and arrived 16 minutes late to the start. I ran across the starting mat alone, and ran almost a mile before I caught up to the walkers!

What are your running goals?

To run the Dopey Challenge in 2014 (at the Wat Disney World resort)! It is 48.6 miles in 4 days, and I want to finish without needing a wheelchair afterwards!

What is a typical dinner for you?

Chicken breast, veggies, wild rice and a salad is my go-to dinner. I love chicken!

What do you bring to every race?

My iPhone and my SpiBelt! I bring Honey Stinger Waffles to every long race

What is your favorite guilty pleasure?

What advice would you give to a beginning runner?

The only person you need to beat is yourself! Don’t worry about any of the other runners (even that 80 year old race-walker, he will beat you for a while), just run your best run, and then try to beat that time the next time you run!

What do you listen to when you run?

Country, ’80s, Jimmy Buffet, Springsteen – anything with a good pace. And the theme song to “Rocky”. I always laugh when that comes up!

What is something most people don’t know about you?

When my son was born, almost 14 years ago, I was 60 pound overweight! I joined Weight Watchers and lost that 60 pounds, using workout videos (mostly Tae Bo and the FIRM). A workout video catalog called Collage Video, featured me on the back and inside of the catalog one month!
