Eat, Drink & Run with the Digital Running Club

Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend
Sept 30-Oct 2, 2011

Get in on the fun!

Disney half marathonSick of running alone on long stretches of road? Let’s face it, even the biggest races have a few lonely stretches, but imagine spending a fun-filled weekend running with friends, new and old, at one of the most festive places on Earth!

The good times start on race day morning with a team breakfast. Fuel up with the team and meet your online friends face to face. Find fellow runners with similar pace goals and make plans to run together. Get final race-day tips from Coach Brian.

After a relaxing afternoon, things really get going as race time approaches. Chase away your pre-race jitters with the Digital Running Club in the race staging area. Coach Brian will get everyone warmed up and ready to go before heading to the starting corrals.

Finally, the moment you train for will arrive! With much fanfare, you’ll be whisked through the starting gate and onto one of the most celebratory half marathon courses in the world fueled by the energy of thousands of other runners. You’ll head down a road lined with cheerleaders, characters, DJ’s and parade floats as you make your way to Disney’s Animal Kingdom for a lap around the iconic Tree of Life. The carnival-like atmosphere will continue as you loop through Africa and Asia, past Expedition Everest and through Dinoland USA.

After exiting the park, your team and the roadside musicians will carry you over the dark miles to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. There, you’ll run down Sunset Blvd., through Pixar Place and past some of your favorite attractions. You’ll wave to yourself on the Jumbotron as you pass through the Lights, Motors, Action soundstage and through the Streets of America. You’ll pass Star Tours and the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular before heading down Hollywood Blvd. and through the front gates of the park.

Then head along a canal past Disney’s Boardwalk and through the Yacht and Beach Club resorts where hundreds of supporters will cheer you toward the spectacular finish at Epcot!

See characters you don’t normally see around the parks, get cheered on by spectators along the way, boogie to the music that Disney blasts, and giggle at the runners in costume. Disney really knows how to make runs fun!

food and wine festivalAfter your race, you’ll join your fellow half-marathoners inside Epcot for an exclusive post-race party featuring Epcot attractions and goodies from the Epcot Food & Wine festival.

The fun doesn’t end on Saturday. After lots of sleep, the team will meet up Sunday afternoon to share race stories and enjoy the Epcot Food & Wine Festival at a more leisurely pace. Celebrate your racing success as we eat & drink our way around Epcot’s World Showcase. The Epcot International Food & Wine Festival is a special event held every fall featuring food and drink from around the world – beyond and including the countries normally found at Epcot. We’ll top it all off with a viewing of Epcot’s nighttime spectacular, Illuminations, on Sunday night.

Not only will you get to meet everyone else who signs up with the Digital Running Club – those new friends you’ll interact with on our online forum or Facebook page – but you can use this opportunity to meet up with friends at a great vacation destination! Invite your favorite running bloggers to join you, have your siblings cheer you on or run with you… Team race experiences bring together runners whose friends and family have spread out around the globe and need an excuse to see each other. Bond with friends new and old over a common goal and achieve that goal together.

Daphne testimonial

Daphne M., FL

“Our team could not have done it without you. From the team coordination and scheduling to the driving, coaching, laughs & hugs… it was an experience of a lifetime and I am so thankful to have been on a team with you. Thanks for all the hard work you put into getting the team to the start line and back home. I know the hours it takes to pull off something like this… so thank you. I hope our paths cross soon and that there are more adventures together in the future! Thanks so much!”

Disney has something for everyone! From fun to romance, relaxation to running, you can find it in Central Florida and we’ll point you in the right direction. Plus you’ll be there during the limited days of the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival. Foodies beware… It’s like culinary fireworks for your palate!

The weekend also includes a Family Fun Run 5K if you have travel buddies who don’t want to push through 13.1 miles.

The race benefits The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, an organization dedicated to the fight against blood cancers. Because you will be running with the Digital Running Club team, you won’t have a required fund raising goal for this event. Feel free to donate if you desire.

Reward your hard work!

You’ll also get access to the online training discussion where you can meet your fellow teammates and discuss your plans and progress online, access to all the Digital Running Club events during the Wine & Dine half marathon weekend and your very own digital running club uniform shirt that will be sure to draw wild cheers from all who see it!

Got questions? We’ve got answers!

When and where is the race?

Saturday, October 1.
Start Time: 10:00 pm, ESPN Wide World of Sports
Finish:
Entrance to Epcot

Running 13.1 miles with your new friends through Walt Disney World theme parks at night with Disney entertainment along the way will make the miles zoom by!

I’ve never run a half marathon before. Can I participate?

Absolutely! The Disney Wine & Dine half marathon is great for first timers (and you certainly won’t be the only one!) Just about anyone can complete a half marathon with enough consistent training.

What am I paying for?

Your 5 monthly payments of $18/ea or one-time fee of $80 gets you:

  • Digital Running Club tech shirt
  • Access to private Digital Running Club events throughout the weekend
  • Packing Checklist – so you don’t leave home without the stuff you’ll wish you had
  • $5 off your race registration (if you’ve yet to register)

Is there a fund raising requirement?

No! Though we offer an experience similar to what you’d find with Team in Training and other charity training groups, there is no fund raising requirement to participate with our team. Simply by paying your entrance fee to the race, you’ll be supporting the race’s beneficiary, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. As a participant of our team, you are NOT required to contribute to our donation, raise your own funds or make an individual donation of any type. We will not ask you for donations. We only ask that you have fun.

Why should I join a team?

Although running is usually considered an individual sport, you’ll find that it’s much more fun when the experience is shared. A team gives you:

  • People with whom to share your training experiences and ask questions
  • People to pace with during the race
  • Group encouragement during the lonely stretches of road
  • Shared fans – you get the whole team’s family and friends cheering for you, instead of just yours!
  • People to toast and share stories with after the race

Alone, the finish of a race can be anticlimactic. Celebrate with friends who understand your training and share your sense of accomplishment.

Is there a cap on the size of the team?

Yes. Once the team hits 150 members, we will no longer accept new team members. Don’t miss your chance to experience the Disney Wine & Dine half marathon with a fun group of fellow runners.

What happens if I get injured and can’t run?

Unfortunately, our packages are non-refundable. Though the weekend centers on the half marathon, it’s only one of many events. We encourage you to come anyway, enjoy the other events and cheer on your teammates as they run. You can still party with them afterward!
